A UK Parliamentary Inquiry, chaired by Stephen McPartland MP (http://www.parliament.uk/biographies/commons/stephen-mcpartland/4093) into e-invoicing in the UK public sector invited Ian Burdon, Elcom’s Director of Strategic Business Development, to give evidence as an expert witness.
Ian gave evidence at Westminster on 24 January based on his experience both with Elcom and as a government official leading an eProcurement program. The topics covered:
- whether there should be a legal mandate for e-invoicing in the UK public sector;
- our customers’ experiences and thoughts;
- the need for good purchasing practices as a foundation for e-invoicing;
- that this is a business issue rather than a technical issue
- supplier views generally; and
- how best to engage SMEs to adopt e-invoicing practices.
Ian’s evidence was later described by one inquiry member as ‘highly valuable’ and was followed up with a written submission of the key points of the evidence.
The Inquiry is expected to report by Easter 2014.
